Its been rumored after this episode that the Shinigami who went to see Ryuuk was Light and that a Death Note user turns into a Shinigami after death.
Many people supports this, but I don't. Why? Well, in the anime, amongst the rules written before and after the commercial break, during the final episode it says. That when a human dies, they are labeled as "Nothingness". Not only that, if you count, there are 5 people who have successfully used the Death Note.
Light, Misa, Higuchi, Takada and Mikami (Underlining the word "successfully" excludes Souichiro for he never wrote down Melo's real name in full).
But if you watch the beginning to the Conclusion, you will see a total of 4 Shinigami, excluding Ryuuk. If this rumor was true, then it would be safe to guess that the three Shinigami who were there, would be be 1 of the four other users. But where's number 5? On top of that. This would mean that the other Shinigami were other Death Note users...but Light was the first, it says so several times. Ryuuk speaks in the end while looking(?) into the skies, as if he was gazing into the afterlife. This leaves an equal possibility that he was not talking to the Shinigami for he left. Also in the manga version, Ryuuk says, "Death is equal" this just so may be referring to Shinigami as well, like per-say Rem and Jealous. Their deaths, although occurred differently, in the end was all the same as a human's. If a Shinigami returns to the Shinigami world after death, than it would very much so be meaningless. So adding up that info, the Shinigami who wanted to see Ryuuk, is not Light.
